The Herb Cottage has Ear Candles
Ear cones or ear candles are used to remove built-up
wax and other matter from the ears. The procedure known as ear candling or ear
coning has been used for centuries. Ear candling is less expensive and easier on
the body than other methods of cleaning the ear canal. Many people have noticed
benefits from the initial ear candling and realized even more benefits with each
successive ear candling.

made with fine, unbleached, natural cotton, spiraled in a cylindrical rod and dipped in beeswax.
THIS IS A TWO PERSON PROCEDURE
DO NOT try this procedure alone. Ear candles are not and should not be
considered a medical device. Ear candles should not be used when any form of surgery
has placed foreign objects (such as tubes, wires or other medical devices) in the
ear.
Use an aluminum pie plate and make a cut in the center of the plate large enough
for the tapered end of the candle to fit through. Lay the person to be candled
on their side with their head propped so that the ear candle to be candled is
in a vertical line straight up. The ear candler should place the tapered end of
the candle through the pie plate and gently into the ear canal. Make sure the candle
is vertical.
Once the ear candle is placed vertically into the ear and the person to be candled
is comfortable, the ear candler should light the larger end of the candle. If
smoke escapes from the ear, then the candle needs to be seated better and checked
to insure the candle is vertical. Reposition the person's head if needed.
Allow the candle to burn until the flames reaches approximately 3 inches from the
plate. Remove the candle from the ear and extinguish it in a bowl of water. Do
not blow the candle out.
Repeat the procedure in the other ear.
Often, hydrogen peroxide is used prior to ear candling to soften the ear wax build-up.
